Dynamo travel to Utah for mid-week clash with RSL

05/12/2010 - Sandy, UT (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Houston Dynamo travel to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer action at Rio Tinto Stadium on Thursday night.

Both teams are coming off shutout wins in league action on Saturday, and are hoping to build on the efforts in mid-week action.

The Dynamo (4-3-1) will be playing their fourth game in 13 days, but are riding high after a 2-0 win at Chivas USA this past Saturday. The Dynamo jumped out to a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes before holding on for the important road victory.

"Great start to the game," Houston coach Dominic Kinnear said. "Two great passes of play, took advantage of a set piece, and then I hate to say we held on, but we did. I think we would've made it easier on ourselves if we could've moved the ball a little better and held the ball a little bit better, but they put a lot of pressure on us and were throwing guys forward, and we couldn't really play out of it. In the end, sometimes you've got to defend, and we did a lot of that. In the end, we're happy with the three points."

The victory was key because injuries and a compact schedule have been affecting the team early this season.

"We've been a bit of a roller coaster," Dynamo defender Craig Waibel said. "Injuries and schedule, there's absolutely no question that guys are stepping up. One of the things that happens, as you know, young teams are inconsistent. The big thing for us is to be consistent by the middle of the season. Let's not take three quarters of the season to try to learn how to play every game.

"Right now, we're still going up and down, but we're getting our feet under us. I think [Saturday] was a good example of some of the young boys starting to understand what possession is and what the value is. Obviously we bunkered in a little bit in the second half, but taking a lead on the road, that's what you do."

RSL (3-3-1) is coming off it's second straight win, 2-0 over the expansion Philadelphia Union at home. The current streak put an end to a four-game winless run in April. The team is currently in fourth in the Western table and hopes it can string together a couple more wins to get back into the thick of the conference race early on.

"It was another home game and a game we needed to get some points from to help us catch up to the pack, so we just wanted to come out and dominate the midfield," RSL captain Kyle Beckerman said of the win over Philadelphia. "I think we had the better of the first part [of the first half], but they had the play after that [through halftime]."

RSL could be without forwards Fabian Espindola and Robbie Findley, as well as midfielder Nelson Gonzalez because of injury knocks, with all three listed as questionable. Midfielder Ned Grabavoy is expected to play.

The Dynamo will be without midfielder Geoff Cameron, forward Cam Weaver, and defender Eddie Robinson, while forward Luis Angel Landin is not expected to be available, all because of injuries. Forward Brian Ching should make his return, however, from a hamstring injury suffered earlier this season.

American Idol odds : Blake Lewis the Early Standout

An important American Idol betting lines recap from February 20 Guys episode. The 12 men came out flat overall with Blake Lewis appearing to have the early edge after the first hour and a half.

Rudy - was quite good singing "Free Ride" to start off.  Randy was not impressed though.  Paula thought he started off fantastic.  "Never had anyone stop off so lively" said Paula but Simon (who does not like Rudy) does not feel he has a distinct voice and was not impressed either.

Brandon was a little pitchy according to Randy and Paula agreed.  Simon said he was a good singer but the song was "too safe" and he needs to make an impact.  He was listed at +1200 odds or $1200 paid out on a $100 bet should he win the competition.

Big favorite Sundance came in with a flat version of "Knights in White Satin" and the judges let him have it, including Paula.  Randy claimed the song was out of pitch throughout.

Korean American - and a Jenny Woo favorite - Paul Kim was up next.  Another pitchy flat one but Randy said he still liked his potential.  Kim at +3000 odds was said to have sung a "third rate version of that (George Michael) song" according to Simon Cowell.  He sang "Careless Whisper".

22 year old Chris Richardson was up next.  He was listed with +1100 odds coming in.  He got the best response from the judges though Simon did not believe the vocal was that great.

Nick was boring and pitchy.  Simon didn't think he was that bad though and predicted he would be back next week.  Nick Pedro was a big +3000 dog coming into this competition.

Beat boxer Blake Lewis was listed with early +1000 odds or $1000 payout on a $100 bet if he were to become the next American Idol winner odds .  These of course were the early odds.  He was considered original for picking an "odd song".  He did not beat box and the judges felt it was the best vocal of the night.

Sanjaya came in as the second biggest favorite after Chris Sligh but his performance Tuesday night was not very good.

Chris Sleigh was the early favorite at +450 odds.  Great voice and a great sense of humor.  He's a real standout.  Randy felt it was on point but maybe ahead of the chorus a little bit.  Simon Cowell said he felt like he was in some "sort of weird student gig".

Jared Cotter followed.  He was listed with +2000 odds early on to win the competition.  The judges felt he needs to take more risks but looked good.

22-year old AJ Talbado, who has tried out for American Idol five times, was up next.  "Kind of a theme park performance" said Simon.  Though the judges felt he performed okay.  Simon did feel AJ might be better than he originally thought.

Phil - this season's military favorite - came into this competition with +1200 odds to win the competition.  He was the last to perform.  He was certainly strong enough to get through this stage of the competition and perhaps the best one after a shaky start.

Tomorrow night, the ladies perform and I sure hope they do a better job than the boys.  Check out all the American Idol betting odds here.
